Jaldapara Wild Life Sanctuary is located on the foothills of the Himalayas in Jalpaiguri in West Bengal. This sanctuary was mainly made to protect the single horned Rhinos. The sanctuary is over an area of 217 sq kms on the bank of river Torsa which is mostly covered with tall grasses. The sanctuary is a habitat for one horned rhinos, Royal Bengal Tigers, hog deer, bison, wild elephants, wild pigs, swamp deer, sambhar and many other animals. It is also known as bird watcher’s paradise as a number of birds like Bengal florican, crested eagle, pallas's fshing eagle and shikra, besides jungle fowl, peafowl, patridges, pied hornbill can be seen here.

Jaldapara Wild Life Sanctuary is a pleasure to be seen in the morning riding on elephants. The ride will be adventurous. Superb views of nature and animals like the running deer, rhinos half soaked in muddy pools add to the excitement. Jeep safari can also be preferred. Tourists can visit Tootpara which is near the sanctuary and famous for Ethnic Tourism. Gorumara National Park and Buxa Tiger Reserve are also famous tourist points near the sanctuary.

The entry point to the sanctuary is Madarihat. The best time to visit the sanctuary is between October and May. Jaldapara can be reached in 3 hrs from Siliguri by road. The nearest station is New Jalpaiguri. Bagdogra which is 145 kms away from Jaldapara is the nearest airport. Tourists can accommodate themselves in forest bungalows, tourist lodges and private hotels in and near Jaldapara.
