Maenam Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the southern district of Sikkim. It covers an area of 36.43 Sq. Kms. As the name Maenam suggests 'the treasure house of medicines', the sanctuary has a huge variety of medicinal plants. Offering an awesome view of the Teesta River flowing far below, Maenam is situated at an altitude of 2300 m to 3263 m.  The thick green forests of the sanctuary give a stunning picturesque that compliments the river flowing underneath.

Flora and fauna:


The substantial forests of Maenam are an abode to many animals namely the Barking Deer, Marbled-Cat, Red Panda, Goral, Serow, Leopard-Cat, Civet-Cats, Blood Pheasant, and Common Hill Partridge. Some absolutely colorful & attractive birds like the Magpies, Blue necked Pitta, and Black Eaglealong add up to the animal wealth of the sanctuary. Medicinal plants are the major wealth of Maenam. Numerous plants with rich medicinal value are obtained in the forest.

Things to do:


The place is famous for its great long trekking of 4 hrs that covers a distance of 12 Kms from Ravangla, through the trails of alpine forests in the companionship of striking vistas of Mt. Kanchenjunga. It's the perfect place for adventure and trek lovers.

Best time to visit:


The time between Novembers to May is the best time to enjoy the breathtaking sight of snow covered peaks.

How to reach there:


The sanctuary is easily approachable from Ravangla just 26 kims away from the spot. It is accessible from Gangtok (65 Kms), the capital town of Sikkim.
