The 2oo yrs old Enchey Monastery, following the Nyngma Order is situated in Gangtok, the capital city of Sikkim. The literal meaning of Enchey Monastery is 'The Solitary Temple'. It is believed that this monastery is built by a 'tantric' that had the unusualpowerto fly. He built a small hermitage at the site of this monastery. Enchey Monastery is recognized as the ancient and religious site of Buddhists in Sikkim. The perfect Chinese architecture, shaped in the form of a 'Pagoda' makes the abode to around ninety monks. The beautiful and scenic beauty of Sikkim and the marvelous architecture of the monastery shore up each other well and attract the visitors who can’t help out without having a glimpse at it.

Important activities:


Enchey monastery hosts an annual festival on every 18th and 19th day of the 12th month, according the lunar calendar. At this point of time, 'Chaam' – the famous Masked Dance is pragmatic in the monastery complex. For these two days, all the monks employ themselves in the mask dance portraying diverse mythological tales.

The nearest airport is Bagdogra in West Bengal.
The nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri, (125 km).
Gangtok is well connected with Siliguri, Darjeeling, Kolkata, and Kalimpong. Regular jeeps and taxis and bus services, are easily available between Gangtok and Siliguri.
