Junagarh Fort or Chintamani is a fort in the city of Bikaner, Rajasthan. The Junagarh Fort built by Raja Raj Singh, is surrounded by deep moats & high walls. There are 37 bastions with only two entrances. It is one of the few major forts in Rajasthan which is not built on a hilltop. Its pretty interiors are very well preserved. Carved stones, marble, paintings, and inlaid semi-precious stones on the wall are things to notice.

Things to Do & See:


The fort has notable complexes that consist of palaces & courtyards. Anup Mahal is one of the main attractions because of its lavishly decorated wall with red & gold glass inlays. It has delicately patterned white plaster pillars covered in golden sheet. Other impressive structures are Ganga Niwas and Rang Mahal. The Chandra Mahal adorned with beautiful mirrors, paintings & Phool Mahal, are the other highlights of the fort. All these Mahals (Palaces) were constructed in red sandstone & marble. The fort houses a museum with rich collection of jewelry, carpets, arms & weapons & rare manuscripts etc.

Trivia: this fort was unconquered except the short-lived victory by Kamran, which he could not save for more than a day.
