Chittorgarh Fort in Rajasthan

Chittorgarh Fort
Chittorgarh Fort
Chittorgarh Fort or Chittor is located in the city of Chittorgarh, Rajasthan, India. It is the largest fort in India & is the witness of romance, courage, determination and sacrifice.

Things to Do & See:

Palaces: Along with the huge decorated gates(called as Poles), the fort has many places to see such as  Rana Kumbha Palace, where queen Padmini  committed 'Jauhar' along with children & housewives & Padmini Palace - gifted by the King Rattan Singh.

Temples: Sammidheshwara Temple, Jain Temple, Kalika Mata Temple, Neelkanth Mahadev Temple, Meerabai Temple and Kumbha Shyam Temple are the temples within the fort. Each & every temple has its own importance. Gomukh reservoir - a huge tank where water comes from the cow’s mouth shaped rock & Bhimtal Lake are the places to see.

Stambh: Vijay Stambh (Tower of Victory) & Kirti Stambh (Tower of Fame), both are remarkable structures. Viajay Stambh - a nine storied structure with 157 circular steps & sculpture of Hindu Gods on its alcove draws everyone’s attention. The city looks dazzling from the top of Vijay Stambha & the Stambha itself looks very beautiful from the city when illuminated in the evening.

There is one interesting place from where Alauddin Khalji (one of the ruler of khalji dynasty during sultanate rule over India) was allowed to see Rani Padmini. According to legends, the place is structured in such a way that Alauddin could see the reflection of Rani standing on the steps of her palace only through one carefully placed inclined mirror. What's more amazing is that the Rani could no longer be seen if he turned back to actually have a look at the Rani. This technological marvel can still be witnessed by visitors & is a major attraction for tourists visiting Chittorgarh Fort.
