A representation of Qutbya Mosque in Morocco, the Moorish Mosque is located in Kapurthala in the state of Punjab. Constructed by Last Maharaja of Kapurthala, Jagatjit Singh, designed by Frenchman & decorated by the artist from Mayo School of Arts, the Moorish Mosque is a brilliant masterpiece. Under the Archeological Survey of India it is declared as a National Monument.

Things to Do & see:


It has a large compound paved with the purest marble.  The inner dome of the mosque is finely decorated. Apart from its religious significance, the tourist or the passerby get attracted towards the Mosque due to its purity & sanctity and the clean & pleasant atmosphere that gives great feel.

The beautiful garden decorated with lights adds charm in the giant monument. It looks very attractive when it wears a colorful look during festivals.

How to Reach?


Kapurthala does not have an airport of its own; the nearest airport Raja Sani Airport at Amritsar is preferable. It has a railway station & is connected to major cities like New Delhi, Jalandhar, Ferozpur but at low frequency. By road- Kapurthala falls on the Jalandhar-Ferozpur road & is conveniently connected to major cities like Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Rajasthan and Delhi. Both private and government owned buses run from the city.

As Kapurthala is not a big city, there is a limited choice for accommodation. Shiven Hotel, Taj Regency, Gardenia Hotel & Restaurants are the available options. As Jalandhar is the nearest city to Kapurthala, many good options are available here.
