The Sun Temple which is also known as Konark Temple is situated at Konark, Orissa and was established by King Narasimhadevain 13th century which is dedicated to Sun God. It is one of the most stunning monuments in India. The entire temple was designed in the shape of an immense chariot with seven horses and twenty four wheels which carries the Sun God, Surya across the heaven. The temple is famous for its grandeur architecture, intricacy and profusion of the sculptural work.  

The temple is located in the natural surroundings bounded with casuarina plantations and other types of trees which grow on sandy land. The Sun Temple at Konark is most popular tourist destination in Orissa and has been a world heritage site since 1984. The temple belongs to the Kalinga School of India Temples.

Architecture:  The architecture of the temple is just mind-blowing. This temple was built in 13th century which conceives a gigantic chariot of Sun God. Sun Temple was constructed from oxidized weathered ferruginous sandstone by King Narasimhadeva (1238-1250 CE) of the Eastern Ganga Dynasty. The temple is a magnificent monument in India. The temple is heavily decorated with stone carving. The major attraction of this temple is huge wheel carved at the base of the temple.   

Konark Dance Festival: The famous attraction of Konark along with the Sun Temple is Konark Dance Festival. It is the major tourist attraction where tourists from the world gather to enjoy the festival. It is held annually in December.
