Sinhagad, previously named as 'Kondana' is just 30 Kms away from Pune. The fortress is naturally protected by its sharp slopes & the fortifications were constructed at only key places. Though it is witness to many battles but the most notable one is battle of Sinhagad in 1670 during the reign of Maratha warrior King Shivaji Maharaja.

Major Attractions:


When the local tourist guide demonstrates about its historical background & the battle of Sinhagad which took place in 1670, you seem to feel nostalgic. There is a tomb in the memory of Tanaji Malusare who played an important role in this battle. The ‘Tilak Bunglow' which belonged to Lokmanya Tilak, a great freedom fighter is a place to visit. There are some other attractions such as Dev Take - famous tank with sweet and cold water.  The fort offers beautiful views of the surroundings sp during the rainy season when the fort gets covered with fog.  It is also popular for trekking. Other attractions near the fort include Panshet, Khadakwasla and Varasgaon dams and Torana fort.

The typical Maharashtrian village food can easily be included as one of the major attractions.

How to Reach?


To reach the Sinhagad Fort, Pune is the nearest city which is well connected by road, rail & airport. From Pune, autorikshaw in sharing, jeeps, taxies, PMC buses & State Transport are easily available.

Accommodation:


The Mountain Hut on the fort is a great option if one plans to take a night stay. Otherwise Sinhagad road & Pune city is much closer to this Sinhgad fort & so many options are available along this road.
