Sindhudurg Fort, the planned rocky island in Arabian Sea. The fortress is located on the coast of Malvan in Sindhudurg district in the Konkan area of Maharashtra. This fortress was built by the great Maratha warrior King Shivaji in 1664.

Major Attractions:

A handprint and a footprint of Shivaji Maharaj are preserved in dry lime in one of the sections of the fort. The entrance gate is hardly detectable from anywhere except for those who are very familiar with the fort. The three wells in the stockade of the fort always contain water even if water in the nearby area dries in summer. There is a hidden passage which was used as the way out for the women in case of attack by the enemy.  Nowadays, it is partly closed. The only Shivaji temple built by his son Rajaram is located here. The other attractions in nearby town include the peaceful & beautiful beaches, Amboli waterfall & hill station. Sindhudurg is also famous for sweet Alphonso. The Malvani cuisine is the unique feature of this district.

Sindhudurg is well connected to the major cities by road & rail. By road, Mumbai and Goa are the nearest bus stations. Kudal (45 Kms) on Konkan railway line is nearest railhead. Ratnagiri, Dabolim(Goa), Mumbai are the nearest airports.
