In 1630, Shahaji Bhonsle established the Lal Mahal in Punefor his wife Jijabai & son Shivaji. Shivaji brought up in the Lal Mahal till he conquered the Torna fort in 1645. Shivaji's got married with his first wife, Saibai in Lal Mahal. The original Lal Mahal almost destroyed and the current Lal Mahal is a rebuilding of the original. This reconstruction is done by PMC (Pune Municipal Corporation).

Major Attractions:

Historically, the Lal Mahal is famed for the defeat of Shaistekhan  Shivaji where Shivaji cut off the Khan's fingers when he was trying to run away from the window of the Lal Mahal. This was part of a under handed rebel attack on Mughal Army that had camp in Pune.

The current Lal Mahal is a monument having a collection of large size beautiful oil-paintings based on the noteworthy incidences happened in the life of Shivaji, a statue of Rajmata Jijabai, a statue showing Shivaji with a gold plough along with his mentor Dadoji Konddeo and Jijabai, a fiber model of Raigad with horsemen and a colossal map of Maharashtra representing the forts of Shivaji. Four Umbrellas on terrace is the attraction of the Mahal.

The well-liked Jijamata Garden is now an entertaingl park for kids.
