Chanderi Fort is located at Chanderi town in Ashoknagar District of Madhya Pradesh on a hill southwest of the Betwa River. Chanderi town is surrounded by hills, forests and lakes including several monuments of the Bundela Rajputs and Malwa Sultans. It is known as the most conspicuous monument in the ancient times. The fortification walls of this fort have been developed during the reigns of the Islamic rulers of the region and thus protect it from outsides. This fort is situated on the Malwa Bundelkhand border and its main gate is known as ‘Khuni Darwaza’ which is the chilling reminder of the ruthless battles the fort has witnessed.

Many Hindu and Jain temples have been constructed in it as the fort came under bundela Rajputs in the late 16th century. The fort has three gates among which the first and the main gate is known as 'Khuni Darwaza' followed by 'Hawa Pur' & a queer gate referred to as the Khatti ghatti which is the third and the highest gate of the Chanderi Fort. The remnants of the Chanderi Fort including the Hawa Mahal and the Nau Khanda Mahal were built by the Bundela chiefs. Tourists can enjoy the experience of rock climbing and trekking on the Chanderi Fort as it would add adventure in the trip.
