Trivandrum is the capital city of Kerala with the Arabian Sea on the west and Tamil Nadu on the east, the city has wooded highlands and idyllic beaches, which are abiding lure for tourists across the globe. Trivandrum is culturally rich region and is famous for Events and Festivals throughout the year. This region proudly celebrates some of the most traditional and ancient festivals in India among which The Great Elephant Race (Anayottam) is mostly popular and fully enjoyed. This race is yearly organized by Kerala Tourism Department on each January which lasts for the period of four days. Around 101 beautifully decorated elephants march from Thrissur to Kovalam concluding at the Kovalam beach in the midst of lot of fervor and festivals.

Tourists from all over the world along with the local crowd gather on both sides of road to see these parades of the majestic elephants. In this unique event one can have a ride on the elephants and even feed them experiencing a kingly feeling. Village Fair, Boat races, and folk art performances are arranged during this period where tourists can have glimpses of Kerala culture along with this wonderful event.
