Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary is located about 40 km from Thodupuzha in Idukki district, Kerala. This park came into existence in 1976 which spreads over an area of 77 sq km. There are plenty of elephants in this sanctuary and it is blessed with rich and different kinds of flora and fauna including mammals like elephants, bison, deer, wild dogs, tigers, jungle cats, sambars, and wild boars. Among the birds, mynah, jungle fowl, black bulbul, laughing thrush, peafowl, woodpecker, and kingfisher constitute the main attractions. West coast tropical evergreen forests, semi evergreen forests, moist deciduous forests, hill sholas, and grasslands crafts for the forest type of this sanctuary.

This park receives heavy rainfall. Tourists can explore the natural beauty of this sanctuary. The Marayoor sandal forest and the stunning Thoovanam waterfalls are located here. Best time to visit this sanctuary is between the months of December to September. Visitors are not allowed in Monsoon.

Things to do and see:

Idukki Arch Dam: It is world known and famous dam and there is lake which is very scenic as it enhances the beauty of this place.

Trekking: Trekking and rock climbing are mostly done here.
