The sanctuary stretches to about 485 km from Bangalore and occupies an area of nearly 834.16 sq km. The wildlife in the sanctuary observes a peaceful & calm atmosphere & hence is recorded as the 2nd largest sanctuary in the state of Karnataka.


The forest comprises of deep river valleys, steep slopes and the intriguingly rich hilly terrain. The very large Dandeli is a mixture of distinctive moist deciduous and semi evergreen forest. The tributaries and the riffling streams of the Kali, Kaneri and Nagajhari intertwine through the forests of Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary of Karnataka which is exquisitely rich and diverse in its flora and fauna.

The sanctuary is a home for the barking, wild dog, civet cat, sloth bear, elephant, spotted and mouse deer, bison, jackal, panther, tiger, gaur, langur and giant flying squirrel, also a variety of colorful birds and reptiles. The reptiles and amphibians of the area include a variety of ruffles and frogs.

Things to Do & See:

Wild life safari, trekking, white water rafting, rafting in river kali, bird watching, crocodile sighting, fishing, coracle adventure activities like kayaking, canopying and mountain biking. Apart from the very interesting sanctuary, Ullavi temple Karwar & Kali wild camps are the major sites to see.

Road: Dandeli is well connected to Bangalore, Belgaum, Karwar, Goa and Dharwad, Hubli by road. Several buses work to & fro to Dandeli everyday.
