
Mansar Food and Craft Mela
Mansar Food & Craft Mela is the famous Mela organized during Baisakhi in April every year by Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department. It is a 3-day Mela held at picturesque Mansar Lake which is at 62 km distance from Jammu and it is one of the finest fairs at Jammu where people from the adjoining state also take part. Mansar Mela attracts tourist from all across the world due to its exquisite items that are on sale at this fair. There is a splendid display of Indian crafts and cuisine. This Mela is an effort of the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department. They have tried their best to preserve the essence of Jammu through the Mansar Food and Craft Mela.
There are numerous handicraft items like Walnut Furniture and Artifacts, comprising of brilliantly crafted items from Walnuts. It consists of wall hangings, jewelry boxes, screens and room dividers. Moreover trays and lattice works are wonderful as Kashmir is renowned for the extensive array of the mimic stone lattice work. This fair is well equipped with all these items. Designs like lacquered papier mache or nakkashi and painting scenes of hunting, frolicking animals and flowered carpets are some of the requisite items. Kashmiri shawls, silk carpets and pottery are also available here. Food items include the famous shab deg kashmiri roghan josh, kashmiri gustaba, kashmiri mutanjan and pasande kabab in non vegetarian items. And vegetarian dishes include the renowned kashmiri aloo dum, haak spinach kashmiri and kashmiri pulao. All these are available in the Mansar Food and Craft Mela along with many exclusive Kashmiri dishes.
