The sanctuary is placed in the midst of the Cheruthoni river and the Periyar river. The Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary in Kerala is inhabited with miscellaneous wildlife species like deer, wild dogs, jungle cats, elephants, bison, sambhar, tiger, wild boar along with reptiles like viper, krait, cobra and many others. Watch out herds of elephants and gaur wandering along the dams of Idukki reservoir, which are mainly Cheruthoni, Idukki and Kulamavu.

Covering an area of 77sq km, Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary in Kerala appeals you for its picturesque charm and mesmerizes you with sights of Kuthumkal Waterfalls and beautiful Observatory Hills. Kerala Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary and the spectacular birds that can be easily seen here are jungle fowls, mynas, hornbills, laughing thrushes, woodpeckers, black bulbuls, peafowl, and kingfishers.
