Manji Sahib Gurudwara, Haryana

Manji Sahib Gurudwara
Manji Sahib Gurudwara
Manji Sahib Gurudwara is situated in Ambala city on Ambala-Ludhiana National Highway towards Ludhiana NH1. The place was visited by Sixth Guru Sri Hargobind and tenth Guru Sri Gobind Singh. Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji came to this place while going and coming back from Gwalior and Guru Gobind Singh Ji came to this place during his childhood. Devotees visit this shrine to take a holy dip in the tank nearby followed by Amrit from the Baoli constructed by the sixth Guru during his stay here. Guru Hargobind Singh is said to have stayed here overnight while on his way to meet Emperor Jahangir. Once, the villagers of the nearby Khurampur Majri complained of perennial scarcity of drinking water. The Guru encouraged them to dig a baoli and instructed some visiting Sikhs to assist the villagers in digging and lining the baoli. The Guru was pleased to see the work completed when he returned from Delhi. This Gurudwara is also called as Baoli Sahib.

The Sikhs established a memorial platform, Manij Sahib at the place where the Guru had stayed. But once again the baoli got filled up partly and fell into disuse. Sardar Mehar Singh of Nishananwali Misl cleared and cleaned the baoli establishing a Gurudwara at the site of Manij Sahib. Maharaja Hira Singh of Nabha (1871-1911) rebuilt it in the beginning of the 20th century and further development took place after 1947.
