
Ballabgarh Fort & Palace
Ballabgarh Fort and Palace was built in 17th century and is situated in Nahargarh in Faridabad, Haryana. It is built of sandstone in Shekhawati style by Raja Balram (1702-1754). It was eventually renovated by 30 trained artisans, specially imported from Rajasthan. Ballabgarh Fort has a legend behind its birth and existence. Raja Balram, founder of the fort was not a born king. He was a poor farmer named Ballabh Singh. One night he discovered two gold laden mules in his farm. Thus, over the night he became rich, got built this fort and began being called Raja Balram. Hence, this fort is partially named after him, i.e. Ballabhgarh. Raja Nahar, after whom the town of Nahargarh is named, was a descendent of Raja Balram,.
It is one of the most enchanting sites of heritage today in Haryana. The fort was renovated several times after its initial construction. This fort served well as a home to the Pandavas, the great characters from Mahabharata. The fort houses one of the most splendid paintings in the ancient times.
