Badshahi Bagh Gurudwara, Haryana

Badshahi Bagh Gurudwara
Badshahi Bagh Gurudwara
Badshahi Bagh Gurudwara is situated in Ambala city & commemorates the visit of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the Tenth Guru who visited this place around 1670 and stayed here while coming from Lakhnaur, where he had gone to meet his maternal parents. This is the place where Guru Gobind Singh performed his miracle. There used to be a royal garden of Mughal Nawab on this place.

During Guru Gobind Singh Ji's visit, the Nawab got envious on seeing Guruji's mighty hawk and wanted to posses it. So, he decided to play a trick on Guruji. He challenged him for a fight between Gobind Singh's hawk and his own hawk.  Since Guruji knew about the bad intentions of the Nawab, he declared that his sparrows were mighty enough to defeat the Nawab's hawk & he ordered two sparrows resting on a nearby tree to fight with Nawab's hawk. The sparrows proved to be so strong that they defeated Nawab's hawk that died. The Nawab realized the power of Guru Gobind Singh and built a platform in his honor.

This Gurudwara was established by Sardar Mehar Singh of Nishananwali Misl. Earlier it was destroyed by British shelling on a rebel force during the 1857 mutiny. It was rebuilt only in 1931 by Sant Gurmukh Singh of Patiala. The present building is however the result of another reconstruction. The Gurudwara reflects the spirit of Sikhism. Every year a big festival is held here on the eve of Baisakhi.
