The beautiful foothills of the Western Ghats shelter the amazing and picturesque Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary, which is one of the smallest wildlife sanctuaries in Goa. Spread over an area of 80 sq kms, the Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary lies 10 kms northeast of the Usgao Tisk village in north Goa and is 52 kms from Panaji. Being the smallest in size this wildlife sanctuary is also known as a wildlife resort of Goa. Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary in Goa, at first was set up as a refuge for orphaned and injured animals, but today, this sanctuary houses a deer safari park, a rose garden, a zoo and a botanical garden as well.

Things to Do and See at Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary


Fauna: Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary provides chances to view some exclusive wildlife species like Sambar, wild boar bison, deer, gaur, porcupines, jackals, leopards, peacocks, sloth bear, python's toddy cat and Malabar giant squirrel. Popular bird species consists of ruby throated yellow bulbuls, common grey hornbills and golden backed woodpeckers.

Vegetation: The Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary has luxuriant vegetation with moist deciduous forests intermingled with patches of evergreens and canes along the nullahs. The common tree varieties of the sanctuary include Matti, rosewood, Lagerstroemia, Kindall, Jamba, Mimusops, and thorny bamboo plantations.

  • Elephant Safari: Elephant rides within the sanctuary are organized twice daily, where tourists on the elephant back can explore the sanctuary at its best.

Tour buses from Margao and Panaji usually halt at Bondla and the sanctuary is connected to Ponda (20 km) as well as Mollem by road.
