• Sirpur near Raipur

Sirpur also known as Shripur is located at a distance of 78 km from Raipur in Chhattisgarh. It is an ancient place, dating back to the 5th and 8th century AD when this region was then the capital of the Sarbhapuriya and Somvanshi Kings of Dakshin Kosala or Chhattisgarh. The ancient Buddhist Monastery of Sirpur belongs to the same period and is regarded as one of the largest and most important Buddhist Monasteries in India. It was an important Buddhist center in the olden days and was even visited by Hieun Tsang, the 7th Century Chinese Pilgrim and Scholar.
