Maa Bamleshwari Temple is the most prominent Hindu temple of Dongargadh. It is located at a distance of about 35 km from Rajnandgaon and 67 km from Durg in Chhattisgarh. Maa Bamleshwari Devi Temple, located at an altitude of 1600 feet is dedicated to Maa Bagulamukhi Devi, a powerful manifestation of Goddess Durga. It is an ancient temple, believed to have been built some 2200 years back by Raja Veersen, the then ruler of Dongargadh for the purpose of appeasing the Gods for his true successor. To reach the temple, devotees and tourists have to climb 1100 steps.

Maa Bamleshwari Devi Temple located at the top of the hill is known as the Badi Bamleshwari. There is another important temple in Dongargadh, known as Chhotti Bamleshwari. This temple is located at ground level at a distance of about 1/2 km from the main temple. For providing ease in conveyance to the pilgrims, a ropeway was built at the temple site, which is the only passenger ropeway in Chhattisgarh. Millions of pilgrims from all parts of India converge here during the Navaratri of Kavar (during Dusshera) and Chaitra (during Ramnavami). The added attraction at this place is the panoramic views on the surrounding areas from the hill top. Visitors also get to view an enormous statue of Buddha in golden on the opposite mountain.
