The ancient Ratanpur Fort is located about 25 km from Bilaspur in the temple town of Ratanpur. The entire area surrounding the fort features numerous historical monuments and temples. The ancient city of Ratanpur derived its name form King Ratandev I who colonized the city during his rule. The fort, lying in ruins since long has been taken up for restoration by the Archeological Survey of India. During its hey-days, Ratanpur was an important seat of power from where the mighty Kalchuri Kings administered and commanded Dakshin Kosala area covering major part of Chhattisgarh state today.
