Sonepur Cattle Fair also known as Sonepur Mela is one of the biggest cattle fairs held in Bihar, India. This cattle fair is probably the largest fairs in Asia, held in Sonepur, which lies in the Saran district in the northern part of Bihar, on the banks of river Ganga. This famed cattle fair is one of the major events in Bihar, held annually on the full moon day (Purnima) of the month of Kartik (November) which is regarded as one of the most auspicious days for the Hindu community.

Dedicated to Surya, the Sun god, Chhath is an ancient Hindu festival widely celebrated in Bihar, Jharkhand and the Terai. Chhath is also celebrated in the northeast region of India such as the Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and parts of Chhattisgarh. Chhath is basically celebrated twice a year, once in the summers (May-July), called the Chaiti Chhath, and once in the winter (September-November) around a week after Deepawali, called the Kartik Chhath.
