Trekking in Assam

Along with the wetlands around the mighty Brahmaputra floodplains, Assam State has a fair share of rainforests and hills mostly situated on the eastern and southern parts of the state. These regions present some of the most picturesque unending valleys and hills which are not steep and such offer convenient trekking routes for visitors of all age groups. Several such popular trekking routes are available for the tourists travelling through Assam, especially within the North Cachar Hills District and the Karbi Anglong Hilly regions.
 
Known as the Dima Hasao District of Assam State since 2010, the North Cachar Hills occupy an area spread over 4,888 square kilometers. Haflong, a favorite hill station amongst the tourists, also happens to be the official administrative headquarters for the district. The population of this region consists of several significantly diverse ethnic tribes who speak disparate languages, with Haflong Hindi serving as a shared dialect spoken throughout the district.

In spite of enchanting natural green forests and picturesque hills, the hilly district of Karbi Anglong still relatively unknown for the tourists visiting Assam. One of the largest administrative districts of Assam State spread over 10,434 square kilometer area, the Mikir Hill District was renamed as the Karbi Anglong District in 1976. Home to a variety of multi-colored cultures and traditions, Karbi Anglong is an extremely beautiful hill destination right within the lap of an unexploited virgin nature.
