Part of the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas, Nameri National Park is located in the Sonitpur District of Assam. At a close distance of 35 kilometers from Tezpur Town, this forest is home to over 600 species of plants. An excellent elephant country that shares its northern boundary with the Pakhui Wildlife Sanctuary of Arunachal Pradesh, Nameri is also home to over 300 bird species. The Jia Bhoroli River which waters these forest areas is famous since the time of the British who frequented these areas predominantly for the Golden Mahseer angling opportunities.
