Spread over a 198 square kilometer area, the Joypur Rainforest is an enchanting example of nature’s bounty evidently marked by a rich bio-diversity. The Burhi Dihing River which flows through these areas is a large tributary of the mighty Brahmaputra in Upper Assam. The state tourism department has taken up a challenging project in order to boost the tourism prospects of this eco-diverse region. Located close to Dibrugarh Town, the Joypur Rainforests offer exciting opportunities for white water rafting activities on the Dihing River. Requisite infrastructure and facilities, including tourist lodges within the forest area have been have been taken up with active participation by the Assam State Tourism Department.

Burhi Dihing River

Originating in the eastern Himalayas within the Patkai Mountain Range of Arunachal Pradesh, the Burhi Dihing River further flows through the Tinsukia and Dibrugarh Districts in Assam. Along with the Joypur-Dihing RainForests, it creates numerous oxbow lakes on the way, right until its confluence with the Brahmaputra at Dihingmukh. It provides a unique landscape consisting of several petroleum fields, paddy fields, bamboo orchards and tea gardens all along its course. One of the major contributors to the Brahmaputra River, the Dihing Valley with an extremely rich flora and fauna is also famous for the Betel Nuts grown within the Dihing plains.

Eco Tourism

The Joypur RainForest is close to Digboi, Duliajan and Margherita towns. At a distance of 80 kilometers from Mohanbari Airport in Dibrugarh, this wildlife paradise within Assam State is most suited to be visited from September up to March every year.
