One of the nineteen bio-diversity hotspots in the world, the Dibru-Saikhowa National Park spread over a 650 square kilometer area, is bounded by Lohit and Brahmaputra rivers to the north and the Dibru River on the south. This large swamp forest in northeast India is composed of tropical moist deciduous and wet evergreen lands, interspersed with cane brakes and grasslands. The Dibru Reserve Forest was earlier notified as a preserve in 1890, and Saikhowa Reserve Forest was subsequently added in 1933. Dibru-Saikhowa was first declared as a wildlife sanctuary in 1986, and a designated Biosphere Reserve in 1997 which was finally upgraded to the status of a National Park in 1999. Originally created in order to help conserve the rare White-winged wood ducks, this park is presently safe haven to tigers, water-buffaloes, wild horses and capped-langurs.

Inhabited by 35 species of mammals, 502 species of birds, 104 species of fishes, 43 species of reptiles and 105 species of butterflies, this exotic wildlife haven is literally encircled by waters from all sides. Also home to over 680 species of trees and plants which are flood-washed during the rainy season every year, this park is conveniently accessible from Tinsukia Town. Dibrugarh-Mohanbari Airport is the nearest air-route, located at a distance of 40 kilometers from Tinsukia. Dibrugarh, at a distance of 55 kilometers and Guwahati, 500 kilometers are comfortably linked to Tinsukia Town through NH-37. Apart from several comfortable government and private tourist accommodations available for visitors at Tinsukia, Dibru-Saikhowa National Park also provides some eco-lodges within the park, which are in fact a great experience.
