The Monpa festival is actually not a single event, infact it is a series of festivals such as Losar, Dukpa Tse-Shi, Ganden Ngamchoe, Saga Dawa, Torgya, Lhabab Duechen and Choekhor.

Monpa festival is mainly associated with crop harvest, where the people of this tribe prayer for the good harvest of their crops. These local tribes believe in their individual customs and perform many rituals to protect their land from any evil supernatural attack. During this festival the local deity is worshipped for the welfare of the society. People of different ages and diverse social backgrounds take part in this colorful event where the locals celebrate with their traditional music and dance. The Monpa tribe follows lunar calendar. The Losar festival which is the main Monpa festival is celebrated on the first day of the New Year. The 'Saga Dawa' is celebrated in the 4th month of the lunar calendar.
