Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh
The holy pilgrimage city of Tirupati is located in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh, India. The town lies in the foothills of the Eastern Ghats and is about 150 km from Chennai and 550 km from Hyderabad. Tirupati is renowned throughout the world for the sacred temple of Lord Sri Venkateswara located on the Tirumala Hills. The ancient temple’s history dates back to over twelve centuries and is regarded as one of the most sacred pilgrimage destinations in south India. Tirupati is famous for its numerous temples and also for its red wooden toys, copper and brass idols. The town also serves as a major economical and educational center of the south Indian region.
