Popular Andhra Pradesh Wildlife Sanctuary

The abundant flora and fauna of Andhra Pradesh invites tourists towards spending a few days in the wild settings and chance of spotting the tigers and other animals. The state of Andhra Pradesh is home to 22 Wildlife Sanctuaries and five National Parks, which spread over the mountainous Eastern Ghats, the rocky Deccan plateau and the long coastline. Each and every sanctuary has its own distinct species of natural habitation. There is lots of potential for wildlife tourism in Andhra Pradesh and the forest department along with Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation is working towards improving the facilities at these sanctuaries. Famous Wildlife Sanctuaries in Andhra Pradesh are Coringa Wildlife Sanctuary, Eturnagaram Sanctuary, Gundla Brahmeswara Sanctuary, Indira Gandhi Zoological Park and Kaundinya Wildlife Sanctuary.

• Coringa Wildlife Sanctuary

The Coringa Wildlife Sanctuary, located in the Krishna and Guntur districts is regarded as one of the best wildlife sanctuaries in Andhra Pradesh. Named after a tiny village Coringa in East Godavari district, the sanctuary was established in 1978 with a sole purpose of saving the mangrove vegetation of the region. The dense forested lands along with the backwaters of the river offers natural habitat for the evolution of wide variety of animals and birds.

• Manjira Wildlife Sanctuary

Manjira Bird Sanctuary spread on an area of about 20 sq. km is located near Sangareddy in Medak district of Andhra Pradesh. The sanctuary encompasses nine small islands that serve as home to wide variety of resident as well as migratory birds along with Marsh Crocodiles and Muggers. It is a small sanctuary, nestled along the course of Manjira River over a distance of 36 km and supports Riverine habitat.
