The Nehru Zoological Park spread on 380 acre is famously known as Hyderabad Zoo. Listed amongst the top tourist attractions in Hyderabad the park is located next to the picturesque Mir Alam Tank. It has got the distinction of being one of the largest zoos in India. Established in 1963 and named after the first prime minister of the country, Jawaharlal Nehru, the zoological park is home to more than 3,500 species of animals, birds and reptiles.

Nehru Zoological Park is a popular picnic and weekend vacation destination in Hyderabad. The Forest Department of Andhra Pradesh runs the zoo and organizes various safari tours such as Lion Safari, Tiger Safari, Bear Safari and Butterfly Safari. Major wildlife animals at the Hyderabad Zoo include Indian Rhino, Asiatic Lion, Tiger, Panther, Gaur, Orangutan, Crocodile, Python, Deer, Antelopes and wide variety of bird species. Breeding and rehabilitation programs of endangered animals along with wildlife research and educational programs for raising awareness for the protection of wildlife amongst public are also being conducted at the park on a regular basis.

Every year more than 1.5 million visitors make it a point to come here and enjoy wide ranging attractions of Nehru Zoological Park such as lush green gardens, wildlife safari tours, watching migratory birds, enjoying boat rides, taking photographs of the wild animals, birds, reptiles and viewing the scenic landscape of the park and its adjoining areas.
