The historic Golconda Fort is an iconic monument of Hyderabad and one of the most important tourist attractions in Andhra Pradesh. Located just 11 km on the western outskirts of Hyderabad, Deccan was ruled from Golconda Fort. 400 year old fort was built by the Kakatiya dynasty in the 13th century and later on the existing structure and new buildings within the fort was added by Qutub Shahi Kings. The name Golconda is derived from Telgu words "Golla" and "Konda" which means "Sheppard’s Hill".

The main attraction at the fort is its unbelievable acoustic system which enables the sounds of hands clapped at the entry gate to be heard clearly at "Bala Hissar" which is the highest point of the fort located around 1 km away. Other important attractions worth watching are the palaces, factories, water supply system and the grand "Rahban Cannon". The tombs of Qutab Shahi Kings featuring exquisite Islamic architecture and surrounded by beautiful gardens are located 1-km north of the outer wall of fort reminds us of the rich historical past of this place.

A Sound and Light Show is being organized at the fort that depicts its glorious past. The audio-visual show is presented in Hindi, English and Telgu. In winters from November through February the show starts from 6:30 pm while in summers from March through October, it starts from 7:00 pm onwards.
