Nagarjuna Sagar Dam is one of the best holiday or weekend getaways from Hyderabad. Located at a convenient distance of about 150 km from Hyderabad, it has got the distinction of being the largest masonry dam in the world built across Krishna River in Nagarjuna Sagar, Nalgonda District of Andhra Pradesh, India. The foundation stone of the dam was laid by Late Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru in 1955 and was completed after 14 years in 1969. Standing tall at a height of 124 meter, the dam serves the irrigation needs of the region and is also a source of hydro-electricity.
